Nathan Eovaldi may move to bullpen role following injury recovery

Texas Rangers pitcher Nathan Eovaldi is progressing in his recovery from right posterior elbow inflammation. During a recent bullpen session, Eovaldi threw approximately 40 pitches, with a live batting practice session expected to follow shortly.

Due to the limited number of games remaining in the regular season and the team's pursuit of a playoff berth, the Rangers may reconsider Eovaldi's role upon his return from the 15-day injured list. Rather than a traditional return to the starting rotation, which would require a full rehab assignment to rebuild arm strength, the team is considering using him as a bulk pitcher or in a relief role.

Eovaldi has expressed openness to this transition, stating, “I feel my best usage would be out of the [bull]pen.” This move could provide much-needed depth to a struggling middle relief unit as the Rangers attempt to close the gap in the AL West and the American League wild card race.
