Nathan Macena faces investigation amid approved candidacy

Nathan Macena de Souza, the former mayor of Careiro Castanho and a candidate for federal deputy, is facing legal scrutiny and has also received judicial approval for his candidacy.

The Amazonas Public Ministry (MPAM) has filed a civil public action against Macena due to suspected administrative impropriety during his 2023 term. The investigation, supported by findings from the Amazonas State Court of Accounts (TCE-AM), alleges irregularities in financial reporting and a loss of approximately R$ 393,026.60. Specifically, the MPAM highlighted R$ 337,566.33 in direct purchases from three construction material suppliers for which there is no documentation to track the destination of the materials, such as warehouse entry records or proof of use in public works.

In a separate development, the Regional Electoral Court of Amazonas (TRE-AM) has approved Macena’s candidacy for the 2026 federal deputy elections. Justice Nélia Caminha Jorge ruled that the candidate meets all eligibility requirements and does not fall under any legal grounds for ineligibility. The decision followed a period without legal challenges and a favorable opinion from the Electoral Public Ministry.
