Nathan Trevallion and Catherine Birmingham's Eco‑House Construction to Begin in Palmoli

The Anglo‑Australian couple Nathan Trevallion and Catherine Birmingham received municipal approval to build a new eco‑friendly house near their former dwelling in Palmoli, Italy. The construction, slated to start in September, follows a recent change to regional urban‑planning regulations that required the pair to acquire an additional half‑hectare of land.

Designed by architect Maria Mascarucci, the 66‑square‑metre building will use sustainable materials such as hemp bricks and a wooden frame, feature a wood‑burning stove, and include a modern indoor bathroom—addressing deficiencies of the previous dilapidated farmhouse that led to a temporary loss of custody of their three children. The couple hopes the new home will support an imminent court decision on family reunification.

The project reflects the family’s commitment to a nature‑centred lifestyle while complying with Italian building codes, and construction firms are being selected for the September start.
