Nation Media Group announces board shake-up after ownership change

Nation Media Group (NMG) has announced a significant restructuring of its Board of Directors following a major ownership change. The shake-up follows the acquisition of a 54.08 per cent stake in the company by Taarifa Ltd, a firm owned by Tanzanian businessman Rostam Aziz, from the Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development.

Six new directors have been appointed to the board: Dr. Julie Gichuru, Julius Kangogo Kipng’etich, Juliana Rotich, Georgia Mutagahywa, Bharat Thakrar, and Wilfred Musau. These appointees bring diverse expertise in media, technology, financial services, and corporate leadership. The new board members replace four departing directors: Sultan Allana, Fayyaz Nurmohamed, Al-noor Ramji, and Prof. Nancy Booker.

NMG Chairman and CEO Joe Muganda stated that the new leadership is intended to help the company navigate industry shifts, specifically focusing on digital transformation and strengthening digital business revenue. This move comes as the company faces financial pressure, having reported a 4.8 per cent decline in revenue to Ksh2.85 billion for the first half of 2026, its lowest turnover in 21 years.
