National Agricultural Chamber to undergo major restructuring and name change

The National Agricultural Chamber (NAK) is undergoing a major restructuring to become a more efficient, cost-effective, and non-political organization. According to Commissioner Péter Zoltán, the reform focuses on four main areas: auditing operations and finances, strengthening professional interest representation, establishing a new electoral system, and implementing a membership fee reform.

Key changes include the resignation of several national vice presidents and the dissolution of the presidential cabinet. To ensure professional neutrality, officials will be prohibited from engaging in political activities or making political statements during their tenure. Gergely Papp has been appointed as acting director-general, replacing Attila Szinay.

A significant component of the reform is the reduction of membership fees, which is expected to decrease by orders of magnitude for small-scale and primary producers. By 2027, the organization is slated to operate under a new name: the Hungarian Agricultural and Food Chamber (MAÉK). The new electoral structure aims to represent the entire food production chain, potentially replacing the current 304-member assembly with a 200-member body that includes regional delegates from Budapest and the 19 counties.
