The National Ambulance Service (OMSZ) has launched a new public statistical platform, stat.mentok.hu, to provide transparent data regarding ambulance response times and rescue statistics. The initiative aims to increase public trust and health literacy by offering monthly updates on response times, broken down by national, regional, and Budapest levels, as well as by emergency priority categories.

According to July 2026 data, the 90th percentile response time for the most critical (P1) emergency cases was 26.4 minutes nationwide and 24.7 minutes in Budapest. This metric indicates that in 90 percent of the most severe cases, help arrived within this timeframe, while the remaining 10 percent experienced longer waits. These figures currently fall short of the service's ambitious 15-minute target.

Health Minister Zsolt Hegedűs described the move as a “milestone” in transparency, noting that the government plans to acquire 36 new ambulances this year and 200 more next year. Dr. Miklós Constantinovits, acting director of the OMSZ, emphasized that honesty is the foundation of trust, stating, “The foundation of trust is honesty: the ambulance service must take responsibility for its numbers, whether they are good or whether there is still room for improvement.”

The new platform also explains statistical indicators such as mean, median, and percentiles, and details the emergency dispatch process to help the public understand how medical priorities are determined.
