Serbia National Assembly debates budget rebalance and legislative reforms

The National Assembly of Serbia is conducting an extraordinary session to discuss a 59-item agenda, primarily focused on the 2026 budget rebalance. The proposed rebalance increases the budget by 112.45 billion dinars, reaching a total of 2.52 trillion dinars. Finance Minister Siniša Mali stated the measures aim to support citizens through financial aid and capital investments, noting that average net salaries rose by 9.4 percent compared to last year. However, opposition members have criticized the move, arguing that the deficit is expanding through borrowing and that the timing suggests an attempt to influence voters ahead of elections.

In addition to fiscal matters, the Serbian assembly is debating various laws, including those concerning the Judicial Academy, anti-corruption measures, and the ‘Belgrade Waterfront’ project. Discussions have also touched upon emergency response capabilities following recent wildfires.

In Bosnia and Herzegovina, political tensions persist regarding state property laws. Nikola Špirić of the SNSD criticized the opposition for their stance on state property legislation, while reports indicate that the Parliamentary Assembly has subsequently confirmed 82 out of 101 laws previously imposed by the High Representative since 1996.
