China-Africa trade payments expand as Mayotte political tensions rise

In Congo, a new protocol between a pan-African bank and the Cross-Border Interbank Payment System (CIPS) aims to facilitate trade between Africa and China using the renminbi. This mechanism is expected to provide importers and SMEs in Brazzaville with more efficient payment options, potentially reducing administrative complexities and currency conversion delays.

In Mayotte, the Ré-MaA collective is demanding public apologies from Deputy Jean-Paul Lecoq following his statements in the National Assembly. The group accuses Lecoq of questioning French sovereignty over Mayotte and misrepresenting historical facts, specifically regarding the legacy of Zena M’Déré. This controversy follows the National Assembly's rejection of a proposal to induct M’Déré into the Panthéon.
