National Bank of Greece to donate and renovate three schools in Ioannina

The National Bank of Greece has reached an agreement to donate three historic school buildings to the Municipality of Ioannina. The donation includes the Pavlidou, Elisavetou, and Valaneiou schools, covering a total area of 5,775 square meters. These buildings currently house six school units serving approximately 700 students.

In addition to the donation, the National Bank has committed to covering the full cost of renovating the facilities. Ioannina Mayor Thomas Begas described the agreement as a historic development for public education and the local community.

The deal also resolves previous financial uncertainties regarding the properties, which were linked to the debts of the Charitable Stores (Agathoerga) to the bank. Mayor Begas noted that the agreement ensures the continued educational use of these sites, regardless of whether they eventually pass full ownership to the Municipality or remain under the Charitable Stores' ownership via existing usage contracts.
