National Bank of Poland increases gold reserves to nearly 648 tons
The National Bank of Poland (NBP) continues to expand its gold reserves, purchasing approximately 7.8 tons of the precious metal in August. This brings the bank's total holdings to nearly 648 tons, valued at approximately 344.7 billion PLN (roughly 92.4 billion USD).
The NBP is working toward an ambitious target of accumulating 700 tons of gold, leaving a remaining gap of about 52 tons. Since the beginning of 2026, the bank's reserves have increased by nearly 100 tons. The central bank maintains that increasing gold holdings serves to strengthen financial security, enhance the credibility of the Polish economy, and diversify official reserve assets.
According to the World Gold Council, Poland has been a significant buyer of gold among central banks. The valuation of the NBP's reserves is also influenced by global market fluctuations; for instance, gold prices saw a significant monthly increase in August, contributing to the overall rise in the value of the existing stockpile.
