National Bank of Poland issues Halina Konopacka silver coin

The National Bank of Poland (NBP) has released a new limited-edition silver collector coin with a nominal value of 10 PLN, titled ‘Halina Konopacka – in service of the Fatherland’. The coin commemorates Halina Konopacka, the first Polish Olympic gold medalist, who won the discus throw in Amsterdam in 1928.

Beyond her athletic achievements, the coin honors Konopacka’s role during the outbreak of World War II in September 1939, when she assisted in the evacuation of the Bank of Poland’s gold reserves. The design reflects this history; the reverse features her portrait alongside a golden laurel branch and an Olympic stadium track, while the obverse includes the Polish eagle, gold ingots, and a pre-war bus.

The coin is minted from .999 fine silver, measuring 32 mm in diameter and weighing 14.14 g with a mirror finish. The total mintage is limited to 8,000 pieces. While the nominal value is 10 PLN, the retail price is 360 PLN. It is available through NBP regional branches and the ‘Kolekcjoner’ online store.
