National Bank of Poland issues new 50 PLN collector coin

The National Bank of Poland has introduced a new 50 PLN collector coin to commemorate the return of Pomerelia to Poland in 1466. This issuance marks the Second Peace of Thorn, which concluded the Thirteen Years' War between the Kingdom of Poland and the Teutonic Knights.

Unlike the standard blue 50 PLN banknote featuring Casimir the Great, this silver coin depicts Casimir IV Jagiellon. The design incorporates a piece of natural amber, referencing the Baltic region's traditions. The coin is minted from 999 fine silver, weighs 62.20 grams, and has a diameter of 45 mm.

The reverse side features a bust of Casimir IV Jagiellon, a fragment of the peace treaty, and the 1457 coat of arms of Gdańsk. The obverse displays the monarch's royal seal against a historical document background. While the coin is legal tender, it is intended primarily for collectors and is unlikely to replace the existing banknote in daily circulation.
