National Bank Open: No immediate plans for Toronto roof installation
Tournament director Karl Hale announced that there are no immediate plans to install a retractable roof at the Toronto venue for the National Bank Open. Hale noted that the Toronto stadium, built in 2004, is a newer facility compared to the Montreal site.
In contrast, Tennis Canada is moving forward with a modernization project in Montreal. This project aims to increase the capacity of the centre court at IGA Stadium from approximately 3,000 to 15,000 seats and add several practice and match courts. Discussions regarding funding for the Montreal project are currently underway with three levels of government.
The current year's tournament faced weather challenges, with rain causing delays during the Toronto semifinals. Despite the wet weather, the women's event in Toronto saw an estimated attendance of 215,000, setting a WTA record for the city.
