National Book Lovers Day 2026: Bookstore Discounts and Freebies

Publishers and retailers are marking National Book Lovers Day on August 9 with a range of promotions across the United States. Penguin Random House will give away limited‑edition "Book Lover" stickers at nearly 500 independent bookstores, while Barnes & Noble is offering 15% off select paperbacks and up to 30% off certain hardcovers. Books‑A‑Million is running a 50% discount on selected titles in genres such as science‑fiction, romance, fantasy and thriller.

The Basic Books group is also highlighting bestselling nonfiction for the holiday, including Alfred Lansing’s account of Ernest Shackleton’s 1914 Antarctic expedition, Ijeoma Oluo’s guide to conversations about race, and Ibram Kendi’s history of racist ideas in America. Prices are listed in both U.S. dollars and Canadian dollars, reflecting the broader North‑American market.

These offers aim to encourage readers to visit independent bookstores, major chains and online retailers, providing both discounts and free items to celebrate the love of reading.
