National Cancer Centers of South Korea, Japan, and China collaborate on research

The National Cancer Centers of South Korea, Japan, and China held the 4th trilateral workshop in South Korea to discuss the future of cancer research and management. Under the theme ‘New Horizons in Cancer Research and Control’, experts from the three nations shared progress in cancer screening, early detection, and national management policies.

Key discussion topics included the integration of big data and artificial intelligence (AI) in cancer management, with specific focus on digital solutions and national-level data infrastructure. The workshop also addressed international clinical research cooperation, specifically regarding the establishment of research ecosystems for pediatric cancer and results from international Phase 3 clinical trials for advanced ovarian cancer.

In the field of basic and translational research, participants explored innovations such as overcoming immune suppression in the tumor microenvironment, CAR-T cell therapy for solid tumors, and drug development utilizing genomic analysis data from over 130,000 patients. Yang Han-kwang, President of the National Cancer Center Korea, emphasized that cancer is a complex disease that requires international cooperation to find solutions and strengthen global leadership in prevention and treatment.
