National Center for Translation releases illustrated book on Aida

The National Center for Translation, led by Dr. Mohamed Nasr El-Din Gebali, has released a new illustrated novel titled ‘Aida’. Translated and presented by Abbas Abu Ghazala, the book reimagines the famous operatic tale through a blend of visual storytelling and narrative, evoking the atmosphere of ancient Egypt.

The work explores the historical origins of the opera, which dates back to 1871 when Khedive Ismail commissioned French Egyptologist Auguste Mariette to create a story inspired by ancient Egyptian history. The musical composition was later entrusted to Giuseppe Verdi, with lyrics by Italian poet Antonio Ghislanzoni.

The narrative follows the tragic love triangle between Radames, an Egyptian commander; Aida, an Ethiopian princess held captive; and Amneris, the daughter of the Pharaoh. The book depicts the conflict between personal love and national duty, culminating in the dramatic conclusion where Aida chooses to join Radames in his tomb.
