National Chengchi University launches C-PVM carbon footprint system

National Chengchi University has launched the ‘C-PVM Product Carbon Footprint System’ to assist companies in managing ESG and carbon emissions through digitalization. The system aims to address common challenges in carbon accounting, such as fragmented data, inefficient repetitive verification, high risks of manual calculation errors, and difficulties in maintaining expertise during staff turnover.

The C-PVM system utilizes Activity-Based Management (ABM) to provide precise calculations that comply with international standards like the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM). Key features include high data integration with potential ERP connectivity, visualization of product lifecycles to aid production management, and an integrated database of domestic and international conversion factors. The university estimates the system can reduce labor costs and operational time for carbon audits by over 30%.

This development follows recent regulatory adjustments by Taiwan’s Ministry of Environment and Financial Supervisory Commission, which reduced the number of listed companies required to follow certain IFRS sustainability disclosure rules from 1,970 to 560 by excluding those with a capital of less than 2 billion TWD that are not under the Ministry’s jurisdiction.
