National Children's Hospital construction begins in Blato
Construction has officially commenced on the National Children's Hospital in the Blato district of Zagreb, Croatia. The project, valued at approximately 237.5 to 240 million euros, is expected to be completed by the end of 2029.
Nearly 90% of the funding is provided by the European Regional Development Fund. The facility is designed to be Croatia's first carbon-neutral hospital, with up to 80% of its energy sourced from solar and geothermal renewables. The complex will span over 53,000 square meters and include roughly 200 inpatient beds and 100 day-hospital beds.
The hospital aims to centralize pediatric care by consolidating services from the Klaićeva Children's Hospital and the Vinogradska maternity ward under one roof. This integration will serve an estimated 300,000 children. The first phase involves reconstructing existing technical blocks and building new structures to house general pediatrics, pediatric surgery, and pediatric oncology.
