National Children's Hospital construction begins in Zagreb
Construction has officially commenced for the National Children's Hospital in the Blato area of Zagreb, with completion projected by the end of 2029. The project, valued at over 230 million euros, aims to centralize pediatric care by bringing various departments under one roof.
In the first phase, the facility will consolidate services from the Klaić Children's Hospital—including oncology and physical medicine—alongside the entire pediatric department from Vinogradska Hospital. The new complex will span 53,040 square meters and feature more than 200 stationary beds and 100 day-hospital beds.
Health Minister Irena Hrstić noted that the project represents a significant investment in pediatric care and the development of the Croatian healthcare system. The facility will also incorporate functional parts of the previously unfinished University Hospital to serve as a technical block. The timeline for treating the first patients will depend on the procurement of medical equipment, which is scheduled for 2029.
