National Citizen Party demands implementation of referendum results

The National Citizen Party (NCP) has demanded the implementation of referendum results and the formation of a Constitutional Reform Council. During a press conference marking the anniversary of the signing of the July National Charter, NCP leaders criticized the BNP government for failing to deliver on promised structural democratic changes.

NCP Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain accused the BNP of deceiving the nation by avoiding the implementation of the July Charter. He argued that instead of following the referendum's mandate, the government is attempting to bypass constitutional reforms through a single-party constitutional amendment committee. The NCP stated it will not participate in this committee and called for its dissolution in favor of a reform council based on the public referendum.

Party leaders also noted inconsistencies in the government's actions, citing instances where previously agreed-upon reforms, such as those regarding the Supreme Court Secretariat and proportional representation for opposition parliamentary committee chairs, have not been fulfilled.
