National Coffee Day marks rising specialty coffee consumption
September 29 marks National Coffee Day, highlighting significant shifts in American coffee consumption. According to the 2026 National Coffee Data Trends Fall Report from the National Coffee Association, 66% of Americans reported drinking coffee in the past day. Out-of-home consumption has reached 38%, the highest level since January 2020, while 83% of drinkers consume coffee at home.
A notable trend is the rise of specialty coffee, with 48% of respondents reporting they drank specialty coffee in the past day, setting a new record.
Various retailers are offering promotions to celebrate the day. Stewart's Shops is offering free coffee of any size or flavor for a limited time. Dairy Queen is promoting its new Coffee Coolers for $3 through November 1st, and 7-Eleven is offering loyalty members large coffees for $1.49 alongside discounted mini donuts.
