National Commission for Women holds public hearings in Dehradun

National Commission for Women (NCW) Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar chaired a public hearing in Dehradun to address 26 cases. Reported grievances included domestic violence, dowry harassment, sexual harassment, and pre-marital relationship disputes. Additionally, the commission heard cases involving property and rental disputes between landlords and tenants.

The NCW is conducting a series of programs in Dehradun and Rishikesh through November 2, focusing on women’s empowerment, leadership, and grievance redressal. Scheduled activities include the ‘Shakti Samagam: Srijan Se Samriddhi’ interaction at AIIMS Rishikesh, which aims to engage women entrepreneurs and self-help group members, and the ‘She is a Changemaker’ workshop for elected women representatives at Doon Medical College.

Other planned engagements include a Mock NCW Advisory Committee on women’s representation on OTT platforms, a Mock Parliament involving Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, and an all-India consultation regarding gender-responsive prison administration, which will include an inspection of the Dehradun District Jail.
