National Company Law Tribunal mandates A4 duplex paper filings

The National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) has implemented a nationwide procedural reform mandating that all filings across its benches must use A4-size paper with double-sided (duplex) printing. This immediate change aims to promote environmental sustainability and standardize registry practices, moving away from the traditional use of single-sided, legal-size sheets.

The transition aligns the NCLT with the broader Indian judiciary, following similar moves by the Supreme Court of India and various High Courts to reduce paper consumption. The reform is expected to lower printing expenses for litigants and reduce storage burdens, which is particularly significant given the document-heavy nature of insolvency and corporate litigation.

In a separate legal matter, the NCLT Allahabad Bench ordered the restoration of ACDI VOCA Social Development Organisation in the Register of Companies. The company had previously been struck off after applying for a Fast Track Exit, a mode that was found to be inapplicable to its specific incorporation under the Companies Act, 1956. The Registrar of Companies acknowledged the error in the initial strike-off action.
