National Council for Childhood and Motherhood prevents forced marriage in Sohag

The National Council for Childhood and Motherhood, in cooperation with the Public Prosecution, has successfully prevented the forced marriage of a 15-year-old girl in the Sohag Governorate. The intervention occurred in the Juhayna district following a report that the girl's father intended to marry her off via customary marriage to an adult acquaintance against her will.

Following an investigation, the Public Prosecution summoned the family and required the father to sign an official pledge not to proceed with the marriage until the girl reaches the legal age. The Council is providing ongoing monitoring and family counseling to ensure the child's safety. Officials noted that the incident constitutes a crime under the Child Law and the Constitution, as Egyptian civil status law prohibits documenting marriages for those under 18.
