National Council of Agricultural Chambers seeks unified crop loss assessment standards

The National Council of Agricultural Chambers (KRIR) has formally requested the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to develop a unified national compendium for estimating crop losses caused by natural disasters.

Currently, existing guidelines focus primarily on organizational and procedural rules rather than substantive technical criteria. This lack of standardized methodology has led to inconsistent and subjective damage assessments by various field commissions across different regions, often resulting in disputes with farmers.

The proposed compendium aims to standardize the process by providing detailed methodologies, including descriptions of damage symptoms for specific plant species, optimal inspection timelines, and photographic documentation to aid diagnosis. The goal is to increase objectivity and transparency in assessing the impact of phenomena such as hail, frost, and storms on agricultural yields.
