National Cultural Fund investigation targets misuse of 17 billion forints
An investigation has been launched into the National Cultural Fund (NKA) regarding the alleged misuse of over 17 billion forints. Authorities suspect that between September 2025 and March 2026, funds were diverted from their legal cultural purposes to finance political campaigns and personal interests. A court has ordered the arrest of Balázs Hankó, the former minister responsible for culture, in connection with the case.
Specific allegations involve several companies with ties to the ruling Fidesz party receiving massive grants. Patr Event Magyarország Kft., a company owned by former Fidesz parliamentary secretary Dávid Zsolt Párkai, reportedly received 450 million forints shortly after a change in ownership. Activist Áron Molnár claims the company had no prior revenue and that the application process was bypassed through non-public channels.
Other notable recipients include Zenei Kör Kft., which received 500 million forints, and Pataky Attila’s company, which was awarded 150 million. Prosecutors allege that while professional colleges are legally required to decide on grants, a significant portion of the funds was distributed through direct ministerial decisions, bypassing professional scrutiny.
