National Democratic Congress clarifies support group roles and registration

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has issued directives regarding the management and registration of its affiliated support groups. Senator Seriake Dickson stated that support groups do not have the authority to establish presidential campaign councils for the 2027 general elections, emphasizing that official campaign organs must be sanctioned by the party’s central leadership to maintain discipline and coordination.

This clarification follows friction between the party leadership and the OK Movement, which reportedly attempted to form its own campaign structure. Analysts suggest that allowing autonomous councils could create parallel power centers and fragmented messaging.

Additionally, the NDC announced that the registration of support groups is free of charge. National Publicity Secretary Osa Director warned against extortion, noting reports that some state chairmen have been illegally collecting fees. The party clarified that registration is the exclusive responsibility of the Directorate of Support Groups at the national headquarters in Abuja. The NDC reaffirmed its partnership with various groups, including the Obidient and Kwankwasiya Movements, while warning that officials found soliciting fees will face disciplinary action.
