Ghanaian political parties focus on internal restructuring ahead of 2028 elections

Major Ghanaian political parties are undergoing leadership changes and internal reorganizations as they prepare for the 2028 general elections. The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has completed constituency executive elections in 275 of its 276 constituencies. Party leadership, including Acting Director of IT and Elections Mahdi Jibril, has called for unity among members to resolve grievances arising from the process and avoid the divisions seen in previous election cycles.

In various regions, the NDC is seeing shifts in local leadership. In the Tarkwa Nsuaem Constituency, former parliamentary candidate John Justice Abban defeated the incumbent chairman, while in the Bono Region, MP Ahmed Ibrahim urged newly elected executives to prioritize grassroots mobilization and avoid complacency.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is also making strategic appointments. Mabel Akuvi Lawson Apenuvor has been named Deputy Director of Protocol, bringing extensive administrative experience from the National Security Council and the Office of the President. Additionally, newly appointed National Deputy Communications Director Abdul Ganiyu has pledged to shift the party’s strategy toward audience-focused communication and deeper grassroots engagement to rebuild public confidence.
