National Democratic Party distances itself from racist social media posts
The National Democratic Party (NDP) in Suriname has issued a formal statement distancing itself from racist and discriminatory remarks circulated on social media. The party emphasized its commitment to ‘unity, respect, and inclusivity,’ stating that such hate speech does not reflect its values or principles.
The controversy stems from posts made via the Facebook account of Fabian Menig, known as ‘Dada Fmr,’ a figure associated with NDP Streetmedia. The posts contained severe racial slurs and hate speech directed at the Hindustani community, including claims that they are not Surinamese and suggesting they belong on a ‘pyre.’
Menig has denied responsibility for the posts, claiming his account was hacked by ICT specialists from the VHP party to sabotage him. He stated that he only became aware of the posts after being notified by others and has since sought professional assistance to secure his account. The controversial posts were removed following the NDP’s official statement.
