National development agencies in Solomon Islands and Sierra Leone launch resource mobilisation plans

Government agencies in Solomon Islands and Sierra Leone are implementing new strategies to improve resource mobilisation and national development coordination.

In the Solomon Islands, the Ministry of National Planning and Development Coordination (MNPDC) will establish a Resource Mobilisation Unit (RMU). Minister Peter Kenilorea Junior stated the unit is intended to help line ministries navigate complex international funding criteria and secure external financing. The RMU will work with the Ministry of Finance and Treasury to pursue diverse funding sources, including the private sector and philanthropic partners. The unit's structure will be detailed in a forthcoming Planning Bill.

In Sierra Leone, the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development (MoPED) has introduced plans to attract investment and strengthen coordination for its national development agenda. During a briefing with the Parliamentary Committee on Planning and Economic Development, officials highlighted the advancement of 10 bankable projects in sectors such as tourism, agriculture, and the blue economy. The ministry is also implementing community-level development planning and progressing on ECOWAS-supported infrastructure projects, including border posts and logistics depots.
