National Disaster Management Centre announces 2027 bursary programme

The National Disaster Management Centre (NDMC) has opened applications for its 2027 External Bursary Programme. The initiative aims to develop skilled professionals in disaster risk reduction and emergency management.

South African students enrolled in or applying for undergraduate, postgraduate diploma, advanced diploma, or Master’s programmes in Disaster Management or Fire Technology/Fire Engineering at recognized public higher education institutions are eligible. Requirements include a minimum academic average of 60% for undergraduate and diploma levels, and 65% for Master’s students, with research proposals aligned to NDMC priority areas.

Successful applicants will receive 100% tuition fee support, including registration. Master’s students may also qualify for a research allowance capped at R11,000. The application deadline is September 30, 2026.
