Dominican Republic National Police reports 53,877 outstanding arrest warrants

The Dominican Republic's National Police has revealed that 53,877 arrest warrants are currently outstanding. Among the most frequent offenses are 17,635 cases of domestic violence, 11,587 robberies, 5,951 physical assaults, 4,018 sexual assaults, 2,761 cybercrimes, and 2,681 homicides. Notably, one individual, José Luis Mateo Medina, is wanted under 41 separate warrants.

President Luis Abinader has urged high-profile fugitives to surrender, promising that the government will continue to strengthen citizen security through increased police presence, new technology, and the expansion of the quadrant patrolling model. While the government defends its security strategies, organizations like the Movimiento Popular Dominicano (MPD) and the Catholic Church have raised concerns regarding the use of excessive force and the rising number of deaths occurring during alleged ‘shootouts’ between police and suspects.

In separate criminal developments, authorities in La Romana arrested three individuals—Alejandro Rodríguez Reyes, Alex Ernesto Rodríguez Rondón, and Ámbar Melissa Rodríguez Ellis—for an alleged financial fraud involving two companies. The victims reportedly suffered losses exceeding 85 million pesos, including millions in US dollars and euros.
