National Drug Council announces rehabilitation and reintegration plan

Alejandro de Jesús Abreu, president of the National Drug Council (CND), has announced a new program focused on the prevention, rehabilitation, and social reintegration of individuals struggling with illicit substance addiction.

The initiative aims to establish a National Prevention System, a National Rehabilitation System, and a National Social Reintegration System. These components are designed to coordinate public institutions, social sectors, and specialized entities to provide an articulated response to addiction.

In a meeting with Angela Crowdy, deputy executive secretary of the Inter-American Drug Abuse Control Commission (CICAD) of the OAS, Abreu discussed strengthening technical cooperation and addressing national and regional challenges. The discussions also touched upon the Dominican Republic's leadership in the CICAD/OAS Group of Experts on Maritime Drug Trafficking.
