National Gallery in Prague hosts exhibition on Queen Anne Jagiellon
The National Gallery in Prague has opened a major exhibition dedicated to Queen Anne Jagiellon at the Valdštejnská Riding School. The exhibition, which runs until March, is the first of its kind to focus specifically on the Czech queen, presenting her as a significant partner to King Ferdinand I of Habsburg rather than a background figure.
The display features approximately 200 artifacts, including artworks and objects borrowed from private collections and institutions across eight European countries. The exhibition is the result of nearly twenty years of scientific research by historians and art historians.
Curators aim to depict the turbulent 16th century, a period of transition between the Middle Ages and the modern era characterized by the rise of the Habsburgs, Ottoman expansion, and overseas discoveries. The collection includes portraits, religious items, and artifacts such as Turkish armor, reflecting the geopolitical shifts of the era.
