National Gallery Singapore and Singapore Art Museum announce leadership changes

The National Gallery Singapore (NGS) and the Singapore Art Museum (SAM) have announced a leadership restructuring effective January 1, 2027. Under the new arrangement, the two institutions will move away from a shared leadership model to have dedicated heads.

Dr. Eugene Tan, who currently serves as CEO of both institutions, will focus exclusively on leading the Singapore Art Museum as it enters a new phase of growth. Chng Hak-Peng will succeed Dr. Tan as the CEO of the National Gallery Singapore. To facilitate a smooth transition, Chng will begin serving as “CEO-Designate” on October 1, 2024, working alongside Dr. Tan for three months.

Chng brings extensive experience in the arts and private sectors, having previously served as the CEO of the Singapore Symphony Group from 2014 to 2022. The institutions stated that while they will have separate leaders, they will continue to collaborate and share resources.
