National Gas Company of Trinidad and Tobago secures major gas supply deals

The National Gas Company (NGC) of Trinidad and Tobago has reached significant commercial agreements with multinational energy firms to secure future natural gas supplies.

NGC Chairman Gerald Ramdeen announced that negotiations with Shell regarding the Aphrodite offshore gas field have concluded, with the project now sanctioned. Production of the first gas from Aphrodite is expected in the second quarter of 2027. Ramdeen noted that the new terms significantly improve the financial value for the state-owned company, with one aspect of the deal offering 400% more value than previous proposals.

Additionally, the NGC has secured arrangements with EOG Resources and bpTT. The company signed a term sheet to acquire 100% of volumes from an EOG development, which is expected to add 300 billion cubic feet (bcf) of gas to the NGC supply. This volume represents a 300% increase over the original allocation sanctioned under the previous administration. These developments aim to stabilize the domestic energy sector and support downstream industries, such as petrochemicals and Atlantic LNG, amid declining domestic production.
