National Geographic announces documentary on 2010 Chilean mine rescue

National Geographic has announced a new three-part documentary series, titled “Chilean Mine Rescue: Race Against Time” (also referred to as “Chilean Mine Rescue: Out of Time”), chronicling the 2010 San José copper-gold mine disaster in Chile’s Atacama Desert. Produced by the Emmy Award-winning Blast Films, the series explores the 69-day ordeal during which 33 miners were trapped nearly half a mile underground.

The documentary will feature never-before-seen cell phone footage recorded by the miners while they were trapped, providing a firsthand look at their conditions and determination. It includes interviews with survivors, family members, and rescuers, with some miners making their first international documentary appearances and others speaking publicly outside of local Chilean press for the first time.

The series is scheduled to premiere on September 25 at 8 p.m. EDT on National Geographic, with all three episodes available to stream the following day on Disney+ and Hulu.
