National Geographic highlights hiking routes in Galicia and La Palma
National Geographic has highlighted two distinct locations in Spain for their unique landscapes and hiking opportunities.
In Galicia, the publication featured a popular 6.5-kilometer hiking route in the Rías Baixas region. Following the Armenteira River between the municipalities of Meis and Ribadumia, the path is noted for its historical stone structures, including over 30 hydraulic mills and the 'Aldea Labrega', a village sculpted in stone. The route is part of the official Galician trail network and the Camino de Santiago.
In the Canary Islands, National Geographic identified the hamlet of El Tablado on the island of La Palma as 'the end of the world'. Located in the municipality of Garafía, the settlement is perched between the Los Hombres and Fagundo ravines. The area is characterized by agricultural terraces, colorful houses, and lush landscapes of laurel forests and thermophilic woods, offering dramatic views of the Atlantic Ocean.
