National Green Tribunal upholds Kotputli sewage plant site and seeks Amaravati safeguard compliance
The National Green Tribunal (NGT) Central Zone Bench in Bhopal rejected a petition to relocate a proposed 10‑million‑litre‑per‑day sewage treatment plant in Kotputli‑Behror district, Rajasthan. The bench, comprising Justice Sheo Kumar Singh and expert Dr. Prashant Gargava, ordered stringent environmental safeguards to protect nearby temples, a school, a cow shelter, residential areas and drinking‑water sources, noting the plant’s modern SBR technology and the lack of exclusive siting guidelines.
Separately, the NGT has called for detailed information on the implementation of environmental safeguards for the Amaravati Capital City project. The tribunal set a hearing for 6 October to examine compliance with its 2017 judgment, directing the Supervisory and Implementation Committees to continue periodic reports and to identify outstanding directions from the earlier ruling.
