National Guardsman arrested for pointing gun at female colleague

Zion Mitchell, a 21-year-old National Guardsman, is currently in custody in Washington, D.C., following an incident where he allegedly pointed a firearm at a female fellow guardsman. The confrontation occurred on August 25 while the group was taking a break from patrol in a van parked on H Street in Northeast D.C.

Court documents and witness reports indicate the dispute began over “regulation hairstyles.” Witnesses stated that Mitchell unholstered his loaded weapon and aimed it at the woman. While Mitchell initially described the interaction as “playful” and later claimed he was aiming the gun downward rather than at the soldier’s head, other witnesses reported seeing him aim the weapon at the victim over a colleague’s shoulder.

Reports suggest the incident followed ongoing friction between the two individuals, with some witnesses alleging the victim had previously rejected Mitchell’s advances. The National Guard has been deployed in the capital as part of a local safety campaign.
