National Highway 415 deterioration sparks public protests

The Public Rights Action Committee (PRAC) has organized protests and submitted a memorandum to the Public Works Department to address the deteriorating condition of National Highway 415 (NH-415). Protesters specifically highlighted issues with Package-B, which covers the Papu Nallah–Nirjuli stretch near Itanagar and Naharlagun.

The committee criticized the state government for failing to maintain the highway despite the collection of road taxes, alleging a lack of transparency in how maintenance funds are utilized. Commuters, including students, patients, and business owners, have faced significant difficulties due to prolonged construction delays and poor road quality.

PRAC is demanding a written commitment from the state government that includes a firm deadline for the completion of the remaining work on Package-B. They are also calling for immediate pothole repairs and a transparent monitoring mechanism to ensure accountability in the project's progress.
