National Highways launches £9.8 million safety upgrades on Cornwall A30 and A38

National Highways will begin a £9.8 million road‑safety programme in Cornwall in early September. Works on the A30 between Kennards House and Five Lanes start on 5 September, with full overnight closures from 5 to 10 September (9 p.m.–6 a.m.) and a reduced one‑lane‑each‑direction flow at a 50 mph speed limit thereafter. The project targets six junctions – Plusha, Trevell, Two Bridges, Blackhill Quarry, Polyphant and the highways maintenance depot – and includes new layouts, restricted right‑turns and improved visibility.

A related scheme on the A38 will address identified accident hotspots such as Lean Quarry, Menheniot, Tencreek Cottage and Castle Air. National Highways plans public‑engagement events later in the year to present proposals and gather community feedback. Both programmes are described by Cornwall Council transport cabinet holder Dan Rogerson and National Highways South West road‑safety manager Jack Mason as part of a decade‑long analysis of collision data aimed at reducing incidents on these strategic routes.
