National Hospital for Tropical Diseases warns of dangerous Influenza A
The National Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Vietnam has issued warnings regarding the dangers of Influenza A, particularly for high-risk groups such as the elderly and those with underlying health conditions.
Medical staff reported a case involving a 72-year-old male with a history of hypertension and stroke. After testing positive for Influenza A, the patient developed severe pneumonia and respiratory failure, requiring non-invasive mechanical ventilation to maintain oxygen levels. Doctors noted that his history of stroke hindered his ability to cough and clear phlegm, increasing the risk of respiratory complications.
A second case involved a patient with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and a long history of smoking. Despite only a mild fever, the patient experienced rapid respiratory decline and required endotracheal intubation and intensive resuscitation upon arrival at the emergency department.
