National Human Rights Commission launches multiple misconduct probes

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) is conducting multiple investigations into allegations of police misconduct and human rights violations across different regions.

In Nepal, the NHRC recommended departmental action against security commanders, including Nepal Police Superintendent Apilraj Bohara and Armed Police Force Superintendent Shailesh Shrestha, following the Tinkune incident. The commission concluded that security personnel opened fire on unarmed civilians not involved in protests, resulting in one death and several serious injuries.

In India, the NHRC has taken notice of allegations that three women journalists were subjected to sexual misconduct by Delhi Police personnel during a protest at Jantar Mantar. The commission has requested a detailed report from the Delhi Police Commissioner within two weeks. Meanwhile, in Odisha, an NHRC team has launched a ground investigation into the alleged assault of Chameli Ojha, a Dalit woman sarpanch, by police and local officials following her inquiries into development fund irregularities.
