National Institute for Sports promotes wellness and basketball development
The Director General of the National Institute for Sports (NIS), Philip Shaibu, has implemented several initiatives aimed at staff wellness and sports development in Nigeria.
To promote physical health within the workforce, Shaibu rewarded staff member Usifoh Godsthought with N500,000 for her consistent participation in the institute’s weekly aerobics programme. The gesture is intended to encourage a culture of physical fitness to improve professional effectiveness and productivity.
In a separate effort regarding sports growth, Shaibu met with basketball promoter Igoche Mark, the initiator of the Mark D’ Ball Basketball Championship. During the meeting, Shaibu encouraged Mark to continue his efforts in developing basketball in Nigeria through private sector partnerships. Shaibu emphasized that the NIS aims to be private sector-driven to avoid over-reliance on government funding, which he noted can lead to stagnation in various agencies.
