National Institute for Theatre and Film Arts faces serious oversight findings

Extraordinary professional oversight investigations at the National Institute for Theatre and Film Arts (OSZMI) have revealed serious systemic issues. According to Zsolt Sári, State Secretary for Collections and Heritage Protection, three independent inspectors reviewed documents, inspected warehouses, and interviewed staff and management.

The findings indicate a significant decrease in the number of skilled professionals, alongside a decline in registration, digitalization, and public education efforts. The reports also highlighted failures in knowledge transfer, management practices, and collection protection. Furthermore, several warehouses and artifact storage facilities do not meet the requirements for long-term preservation.

As a result of these findings, investigators have recommended a review of the leadership competence of Director Géza Bodolay. The reports were submitted to the institution's maintainer, the Foundation for Theatre and Film Arts led by Attila Vidnyánszky, which received them on August 12. The maintainer is now expected to take necessary steps.
