National Institute of Oncology faces investigation over alleged irregularities

Hungarian Health Minister Zsolt Hegedűs has announced an investigation into the National Institute of Oncology following reports of potential irregularities. The probe is being conducted by the National Hospital Directorate and the state secretariat responsible for inpatient and outpatient care.

The investigation follows media reports, including an article by the LitMed health portal, alleging systemic abuses and improper links between state-funded and private healthcare services at the institute. Allegations suggest that patients may have been directed from state screenings toward private services.

Minister Hegedűs clarified that the investigation began last week following reports received by the Ministry and is not a direct reaction to recent press speculation. He emphasized that no decisions regarding the institute's leadership have been made and that the process must remain impartial and fact-based.

Director General Magdolna Dank has assured the Ministry that the institute's staff will cooperate fully. Both the Minister and the Director General stressed that maintaining stable operations and ensuring uninterrupted patient care and safety remain the highest priorities during the inquiry.
