National Library of Malaysia launches Media and Information Literacy Week 2026
The National Library of Malaysia (PNM) is strengthening efforts to promote media and information literacy through the Media and Information Literacy Week (MLMM) 2026, held on October 24–25 in Kuala Lumpur. The initiative includes the launch of an e-Book Information Literacy Module to support systematic learning.
PNM Director General Edy Irwan bin Zulkafli emphasized that media literacy is now a fundamental modern life skill due to the increasing complexity of digital manipulation, fake news, and online scams. He noted that in 2025, Malaysia recorded 66,204 online fraud cases resulting in losses of RM2.97 billion.
While internet usage in Malaysia reached 98.3 percent among individuals and 97.1 percent among households in 2025, officials stressed that easy access to information does not guarantee the ability to verify its authenticity.
