National Library of Užice Begins Renovation of Children’s Section for 170th Anniversary

The National Library of Užice has started a reconstruction of its children’s department, funded through a competition organized by Serbia’s Ministry of Culture and supported by the City of Užice. Library director Dušica Murić said the space had not been renovated for many years, making the overhaul essential. Planned works include replacing the floor covering, repainting walls, installing gypsum‑board panels in place of existing lampery, expanding shelving space and updating furniture, especially chairs used by the youngest visitors. The improvements aim to create a brighter, more welcoming environment for children and all library users.

The renovation coincides with the library’s 170th anniversary, marking the founding of the first reading room in Užice. Celebratory events are scheduled for 19 August at the National Theatre and a free monodrama “Reči o svečoveku” on 20 August, performed by actor Nebojša Dugalić.
