National Maritime Museum of the Gulf to host Jimmy Buffett exhibit

The National Maritime Museum of the Gulf in Mobile, Alabama, will host a new permanent exhibit titled ‘Jimmy Buffett: Son of a Son of a Sailor Experience’ starting September 12. The 6,000-square-foot installation is designed to celebrate the late musician's multifaceted life as an author, sailor, pilot, and entrepreneur.

The exhibit will feature rare artifacts, including Buffett’s 2023 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame statue, the guitar used for ‘Son of a Son of a Sailor’, handwritten lyrics, and previously unreleased concert and recording footage. The installation also aims to provide an immersive concert experience.

Opening festivities will include a performance on September 11 at the Saenger Theatre by Coral Reefer Band members Mac McAnally and Scotty Emerick, followed by the unveiling of a new bronze sculpture of Buffett on September 12.
